Some experts are predicting retail growth in 2009 while others are less optimistic

With ongoing financial stability causing chaos worldwide, a number of industries are hampered by a cloudy outlook for when recovery is expected.

Two experts weigh in on the 2009 forecast for the retail sector in Canadian Business magazine.

According to Toronto-based Kubas Consultants, the retail sector - excluding car dealerships, gas stations and other auto-related products - is expected to grow by 3.5 percent this year, says the article.

On the other hand, a senior consultant with retail consultancy J.C. Williams Group predicts 2009 for the retail sector to shakeout between a 1 percent decline and a 1 percent increase, reports Canadian Business.

Generally, until economic recovery is underway in the U.S. - and that is not expected at least until year end - Canada's economy will likely continue to flag.

A number of experts encourage small businesses, including those in the retail sector, to continue to pursue marketing campaigns despite the economic slump. Make your presence known to consumers and listen to the changing needs of customers during the downturn, they say.
