Small businesses altering spending habits, more dollars flowing online

A new study shows that small and medium-sized businesses are spending an increasingly significant portion of their marketing budget for online advertising.

Borrell Associates research on the interactive spending habits of over 14 million small and medium-sized businesses revealed that last year over USD6.7 billion was allocated to online advertising.

The research firm expects that number to increase in 2009.

Small businesses are likely to push for more spending on their websites this year as well - often considered a marketing vehicle by some business owners, says Borrell.

That money could be spent on a variety of online features - simple web design, purchasing a new domain name, or even upgrading social network features on an ecommerce site.

Some small businesses may focus more on content for their websites. An article in Tech News World suggests that updated, original content is important to online shoppers and that business owners should consider dedicating more time and resources to website content management.
