How to boost creative energy and morale at work

Taking a music class or visiting an indoor garden might not seem like tough business tactics but may provide a creative boost to your business.

Elizabeth Verwey, the owner of Small Office Mentors, suggests small business owners refresh their minds and perspective through non-work activities.

In an article for Insidetoronto.com, Verwey says that there are many ways to brainstorm new product ideas, increase energy, and build new skills when everyday operations become "routine."

"There are ways to challenge our minds in our personal lives that carry energy into our work world," says Verwey. She has recently taken a blues harmonica class and had a friend that renovated a room in her house to lighten up and stir up creative energy in February.

Meanwhile, for companies that may suffer from lower energy after staff reductions, a new report suggests there are steps to take to prevent post downsizing stress from affecting employees.

According to a study by business professor Barry Shore at the University of New Hampshire, open communication from management, collaboration, and celebration of accomplishments can help company morale during tough economic times.
