Small businesses using Twitter for marketing, meetings and even recruitment

While the increasingly infamous micro-blog is one way to stay connected with friends, many businesses are using it for day-to-day operations.

According to a Media Post article, roughly 56 percent of Twitter users conduct business on the social communication site.

This figure was credited to social media expert Rodney Rumford at a recent industry conference. While Rumford acknowledges the importance of business-to-business communication on Twitter, he says that small businesses are increasingly using it for marketing to consumers.

Twitter has helped facilitate a new cost-effective marketing channel for small businesses.

But some tech savvy business owners are also using the site for recruiting purposes. Itbusiness.ca says that using Twitter for recruitment is a "less obvious, but potentially effective" way to hone the hiring search to the most qualified candidates that regularly follow industry trends.

Sharing company news on the social communication site, says the IT business source, gives potential candidates a glimpse into the business operations, culture and management style even before the hiring process begins.
