New tools to attract customers

Local businesses are increasingly aware of the need to transform a business website into a full-blown product experience.

New web tactics are often a cost-effective way to market the business, and an important way to generate new revenue from a tech-savvy younger generation.

A good website design is the first step, but blogs, interactive displays, and a presence on social networking sites is quickly becoming the norm.

The Brantford Expositor is reporting that local merchants are benefitting from new media and digital marketing seminars hosted at the Brantford/Brant Business Resource Centre.

Sponsored by Brant County, Ontario Small Business and Customer Service, Brantford Tourism, and Student Connections, the most recent workshop attracted 30 local business people interested in learning how to make blogs, web networks and other digital marketing tools work for them.

Another increasingly popular way to drive up ecommerce traffic is through website testimonials.

Author Robert Cialdini calls product testimonials "social proof" of product acceptance, according to an article in last month's CanadaOne magazine.

Cialdini's book called Influence - Science and Practice suggests that consumers determine what is correct by understanding what others believe is right.
