Local entrepreneurial award to fund start-ups

In an effort to foster an entrepreneurial culture and keep business talent local one Niagara family is offering an incentive.

The Standard newspaper recently reported on the goodwill of Angelo Nitsopoulos whose family owns several hotels in the area.

The newly established Nitsopoulos Family Entrepreneurship Award is up for grabs for Brock University graduates up to two years after completing school as an incentive to build a local business.

"We have a wonderful university. We have a wonderful college. The rest of our businesses are not growing," Nitsopoulos tells The Standard. "We're not keeping people here. We send them off to Toronto and the world. This is a reason to stay, especially for people who grew up here."

A selection panel of Brock business faculty members, local business leaders, and the Nitsopoulos family will award the money based on business plans submitted by applicants, explains the article.

The award money could be used for a variety of costs associated with a business start-up including leasing a space, ordering furniture, designing a logo, obtaining cheques and banking supplies, or even printing company letterhead and business cards.
