How one entrepreneur used diet to build a successful business
One young entrepreneur developed his business idea from his childhood diet.
The challenges of an entrepreneur start with generating a good idea. For Mike Fata, a poor diet full of fatty foods in his youth sparked a new business concept.
In a recent interview with the Financial Post, the Manitoba business owner says that searching for a healthy diet led to the launch of his hemp-based food business Manitoba Harvest.
"As a teenager, I ate mainly fast foods, and my weight ballooned. I left school at 14 and worked in construction. At 18, a fat-free diet helped me lose 140 pounds, but sapped all my strength," Fata told the news source. "Making healthier choices with foods, I found that flax oil boosted my energy."
Fata and his business partners now sell their products in Loblaws, A&P, and a variety of healthfood stores.
They maintain an informative website that educates consumers on their product and serves as an ecommerce portal for purchases.
With a solid idea and in some cases savvy web design, 2.3 million small business establishments currently exist in Canada.
