How employees and business owners can better manage the work/life balance
Credit card bills, the possibility of layoffs and managing a budget are problems stemming from the economic crisis and affecting both business owners and individuals at home.
With so many stressors in the work and home environments, some experts suggest setting priorities to help better manage the work/life balance.
An article in Forbes says that with so many different competing priorities - work, kids, caring for elderly parents, and volunteering - some tough choices might need to be made to stay at the top of your game.
"Focus on the things that are important to you, and don't do the extraneous stuff," advises Jody Miller of the executive staffing firm Business Talent Group. "It's a discipline that doesn't come too naturally to most of us."
With many employees commuting long distances to work, perhaps telecommuting is an option, suggests the article. Commuting time can then be devoted to other activities.
Meanwhile, another way some small business owners are relieving the stress of employees at the office is to keep communication open and frequent. Experts advise that in these times of economic uncertainty, employees typically benefit from an open forum with management.
