How current economic conditions are actually helping entrepreneurs
Although some small businesses are struggling to obtain financing for growth or even new ventures, those with financial backing are finding they can do much more with less in the current economy.
An article in the Montreal Gazette reveals how one respected venture capital player believes that starting a small business is viable in this environment.
"I can make the case now that with open source (software), outsourcing and lots of unemployed people and cheap commercial real estate, it's a great time to start a company. You can start a company now cheaper than ever," opined Guy Kawasaki in a recent interview.
Kawasaki said that companies that build unique products offering end users real value have a good chance to succeed, reports the Gazette.
Existing small businesses are also taking advantage of depressed prices and the financial situation at large to improve their company's balance sheet.
Some small businesses are renegotiating lease terms with landlords, and others are revising contracts with suppliers and vendors with new, more amenable terms.
