A blase attitude won't help win over customers, say many small business owners.
But owners, salespeople or a company spokesperson with passion for the product and an ability to connect with the customer base are key to business success.
These skills are essential, according to commentary from a number of entrepreneurs featured in Inc magazine, who also recognize the importance of listening to consumers and reacting to their feedback.

Many business owners who are passionate about reaching out to consumers are using new media to do so. Looking beyond their ecommerce website, entrepreneurs are increasingly found connecting with customers on social networking sites like Facebook and even in rapid-fire communication on Twitter.
