Canadian businesses are buying into mobile advertising trend cautiously

Growth trends in mobile advertising suggest that it is a new emerging trend worth investigating.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada has released statistics that show explosive growth of mobile advertising since 2006.

According to the IAB Canada, mobile ad revenue in Canada was $1.1 million in 2006 and grew to $2.7 million by 2007. Forecasts show that 2008 revenue could double and top $5.2 million when actual figures are released.

Experts warn that the growth in mobile advertising is magnified because it is so new compared to some other more mature channels. But, the new trend is still impressive.

Peter Vaz, vice president of IAB Canada's Emerging Platforms Council said, "The results show not only the rapid growth of the market to date, but beyond that, the fact that mobile marketing is poised to move from one-off experimental campaigns to becoming an important part of the overall Interactive marketing mix."

The mobile ad research does reveal that some businesses remain wary of the new technology. Some potential users expressed concern about the limited universe of mobile internet-enabled consumers.
