How an online presence - Twitter, blogs or a company site - is revolutionizing marketing
As marketing materials and tactics continue to go digital, industry experts are advising business owners to increase their online presence.
Consumers are interested in saving money by surfing for coupons online, but now business can cut costs too by reaching out to customers on a variety of social networking sites.
Whether tweeting followers about sales and promotions on micro-blog site Twitter or blogging about an experience that inspired a new product, business owners are developing relationships with customers in unconventional ways.
Some small business owners are advocating the advent of new marketing techniques.
Gary Vaynerchuk, who runs the family business of selling wine online, tells the New York Times that any type of business owner - outgoing or shy - can connect with customers online by sharing expertise.
"Social networking means virtual handshaking, working the room. You connect with people instead of giving presentations, "says Vaynerchuk adding that he spends countless hours answering customer emails.
"The introvert can write a blog, offering expertise and making a personal connection with the customer," he told the Times.
