A restaurant group, a bookstore, and a telecommunications firm took top honors for small businesses at the Halifax Business Awards.Sponsored by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, "risk takers and trailblazers" were recognized last week at the annual celebration of community businesses. 

Chamber president Valerie Payn said, "This is the only awards show in the city that recognizes all types and sizes of business, celebrating the drive, passion and will to succeed that characterizes business in Halifax." 

The Hamachi Group of Restaurants was awarded gold honors in the small business category. 

Woozles, a children's bookstore, and Internetworking Atlantic, a telecommunications company grabbed silver and bronze awards in the same category. 

On the heels of the awards, Aliant BizLaunch is hosting an upcoming seminar for small business owners. 

Building and maintaining a thriving business through smart branding, detailed business plans, and good employment practices will be covered in the seminars geared to small business owners and entrepreneurs.  

Small businesses throughout Canada are recognized for their lasting contributions to community success, including in the Upper Ottawa Valley where Bonnechere Caves was just honored as the small business of the year.
