Access to credit helps ease financial burden, important for small business growth
Small business owners struggling for relief during the recession are hunkering down and finding ways to cut costs, retain employees and keep customer service levels high.
Industry experts advise small business owners to take steps as simple as ordering business supplies in bulk or order pre-printed cheques and business forms as a way to save.
Most small business owners will likely be pleased to hear that some supporters are also making calls to the government to help small shops obtain much needed financing to keep business operations running smoothly.
Financial Executives International Canada went before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance earlier this week to call for easier access to credit to help small businesses grow.
"Greater access to long-term credit financing, particularly for small-to-medium businesses, in addition to increasing inter-provincial trade efficiency and establishing a national securities regulator are all critical factors in helping to shape the foundations of a strong Canadian economy and global competitiveness," said Michael Conway, chief executive of FEI Canada.
